Transport: 8 out of 10 companies violate security

The Ombudsman's Office, Eduardo Mondino, released the results of an investigation into conditions in the passenger automobile transport long, short and mediadistancia.
"It has been determined - the ombudsman said - that 80% of companies authorized to perform this activity incurs repeated violacionesde the rules established to ensure the safety of its users.
In the city of Buenos Aires, in so far this year, irregularities were detected in 42%. Of the buses inspected internally on that basis amounted to 53.9% of inspections reported violations.
companies offered no evidence in his defense confirming the allegations put to them. The repeated violations over time leads to the conclusion that the penalties provided for are not currently provided to alleged economic benefit for the companies to transgress .
The Ombudsman noted that the agencies should increase the frequency and depth of the controls and the magnitude of the sanctions to be imposed.
Between 1 January and 22 March last, it was confirmed that many drivers and auxiliary personnel work longer than the legal time and do not have the hours of rest required. We also checked defaults in completing the work book of drivers and assistants on board, and the lack of grant of CHF in the months and lack of mandatory life insurance.
"Clearly, then, that excessive working hours is used in passenger motor transport long, short and mediadistancia as an effective tool to increase business revenue at the expense of established standards to ensure the safety of users, "concludes Mondino.
